Prince Avenue Academy & Nursery

South East Essex Academy Trust (SEEAT)

Religious Education

At Prince Avenue we aim to engage pupils through provoking and significant questions about meaning and purpose in life, beliefs about God, religious practices, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. All of which will develop pupils’ views of themselves and others, promote diversity and equality, and stretch their understanding of the world around them.

We are committed to:

  • Engaging pupils through thought provoking and significant questions.

  • Empowering children with knowledge of people’s customs, faiths, beliefs and practices.

  • Promoting the opportunities to discover their own views and those of others.

  • Offering pupils the opportunity to stretch their understanding of the world around them.

  • Developing the skills needed to appreciate and appraise differing views and express their own response.

Prince Avenue pupils will:

  • Have an understanding of a range of religions and worldwide views which will enable them to engage and respectfully express their thoughts and ideas about the nature, significance and impact of differing views so that they are able to express their own response respectfully and thereby participate in a diverse society.

  • Be equipped with the knowledge of other people's customs, faiths, beliefs and practices

  • Be able to discover their own beliefs, values and attitudes

Parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education lessons. If you wish to exercise this right, please contact the school in writing to discuss your concerns and the process for withdrawal.
We encourage parents to arrange a meeting and speak with us before making this decision so we can provide further information about the curriculum and support you in making the best choice for your child’s education.  Following this discussion a written request for withdrawal will need to be submitted.  This should include:
    • Your child's name and class.
    • A clear statement that you wish to withdraw your child from RE.
    • Whether the withdrawal is total or partial (e.g., from specific topics).
